Lessons From a Broken HVAC Blower Motor

Lessons From a Broken HVAC Blower Motor
Let’s talk about how every single day it’s something. You know what I mean—the little frustrations that throw a wrench in the day. That show-stopper moment where you think, really? right now?
On one hand, it’s irritating. On the other hand, deep down, we know not every day is going to be smooth sailing. In fact, it’s better to expect the unexpected.
I can remember as a child when things went wrong… the problem always seemed to get handled.
The washer broke? Fixed by the end of the day.
The dryer went out? Fixed by the end of the day.
The well quit pumping? Fixed within hours.
It was always fixed.
Yesterday, though, my “something” came in the middle of an excessive heat warning. It was scorching outside. On my lunch break, my coworker and I grabbed a bite to eat, but by the time we returned, I was melting. My air conditioning had gone from weak to nonexistent—just a whisper of cool air if I held my hand right against the vent.
I had hoped that when I returned to my car later, it might “reset.” But no such luck. By the time I headed home, the blower motor had completely given up. No sound. No breeze. Nothing but 100-degree heat and my hair blowing in the hot wind from the open windows.
And there I was, questioning myself: Why was this put off? Why did we keep ignoring the problem when we knew it was only getting worse?
In desperation, I gave the glove box area a few good smacks, hoping to jolt the blower awake. And praise the Lord—it worked. A faint, broken little hum filled the car. It wasn’t much, but it was enough. I quickly rolled the windows up, hanging onto every ounce of cool it could give me.
By the time I hit the four-way stop before town, I made a decision: skip the drive home and go straight to the auto parts store. I bought the part, grabbed the tool, and by the time I made it back, the blower had quit again.
With the help of YouTube, FaceTime calls to my brother-in-law, and eventually my husband stepping in, the problem was fixed that same evening.
And it got me thinking: why do we wait? Why do we ignore problems we know aren’t going to fix themselves? Whether it’s something in our home, our relationships, our health, or even in our walk with God—we procrastinate, patch things up, and hope they hold a little longer. But often, the longer we wait, the worse it gets.
Sometimes the best thing we can do is stop putting it off, roll up our sleeves, and fix the problem before it leaves us stranded in the heat of life. So with that being said: Don’t wait. Don’t put it off. Fix what needs fixing today—both in your life and in your faith.
“Do not put off until tomorrow what can be done today.” – Benjamin Franklin
