Raising a boy
Parenthood is one of the most rewarding jobs that I’ve been blessed with.
I saw a quote that said, “parenting is only hard for good parents”.
– Unknown Arthor
I am a boy mom! My days are spent with a rowdy fella who loves to be covered in dirt, loves the outdoors and his superhero capes. Our days are spent being very active and there is little time to fit a word in edgewise because he is full of so many extraordinary ideas and imagination. Did I mention dirty? Dirt jumps on him- I am not even sure he has to go looking for it.
I often think about what he will remember from his childhood. As an adult I reflect on my own childhood. I am flooded with happiness when I think back to life as a child at home. Most of my days were spent outdoors, just like my son.
We had treehouses and tire swings. We played in the dirt and used our imagination to build and create our own happy little places. We didn’t have a lot of technological distractions when I was growing up.
As a parent I want my son to experience life from a similar perspective. I want him to learn to love all that God has provided us. In fact, I take pride in raising him to learn how to one day provide with his own two hands and to rely on God.
Recently we started growing a garden at home, we spent many days during the spring and summer teaching that if we plant a good seed that we will eventually reap a good harvest. It’s a lesson that we have been able to visually show our son. He loved being able to help his daddy gather fresh vegetables that he helped to water and grow.
It’s so important to me that in our home my husband and I deeply invest our time in our child. We get one opportunity to raise him. One time.
We are shaping him into the man that he will one day become. The husband that one day my future daughter in law will love and nurture, we are teaching him what a healthy life looks like- Spiritually and in our home.
And while it’s very important to make sure that we get it right it’s also a quick reminder that good parents don’t always have ALL the answers.
Hit your knees mama and pray.
The bible teaches us that children are a gift from God and that we should raise them with love and instruction. We are to model a Christ-like life for their example.
We are to give them compassion when they make mistakes, teach them scripture and guide their little hearts to love and live for Jesus.
“ I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth”
3rd John 3:4
Raise your children in a happy, harmonious home that loves the lord and teaches by example.
“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it”.
Proverbs 22:6
