Let’s talk seniors. And no — not our grandparents this time!

Images taken in Senatobia MS. at Jax’s Home. Creatively we thought how cool would it be to incorporate the basketball net, the car and this cool kid all into one pic? So Jax’s brothers stepped in and helped hold the net around the lens and this image was PERFECTION!

Let’s talk seniors. And no… I am not talking about our grandparents this time.
I’m talking about THIS season of your childs life. The one where your child is standing on the edge of everything. The last firsts. The final games of their high school career. The countdown to caps and gowns. The in-between of who they’ve been and who they’re becoming.
This. Senior. Session….
Guys it was one of those magical ones where everything just fell into place so epically.
Jax absolutely rocked this session in every way and I truly mean that.
He’s one of those extremely rare kids who already knows who he is. There was no trying to fit Jax into a mold. it was no chasing trends. There was no “performing” for the camera (other than him being his silly self). He showed up creatively himself… confident, grounded, and completely comfortable in his own skin.
Look… as a photographer, that kind of authenticity….. IT IS GOLDEN!
Jax is an incredible athlete. Basketball is 100% his thing… and when I say he’s good, I mean impressively good. Jax is the kind of player you can tell has poured hours of heart into the gym long after everyone else has gone home. So of course, we had to highlight such an important part of his high school career. Those years on the court most definitely mattered…. its what set him apart.
We hit the gym where he’s played so many games throughout high school. It was like you could hear the sounds, you could feel the lights, the hardwood floors… they held memories. It was the wins. The losses. Plenty of lessons. Growth. I always say I want my images to tell the story without needing any words, and that gym and Jax did exactly that. All I had to say was, “Jax, look this way and give me that smile… you know the one.” And he did that crooked grin that says confidence without arrogance. He had focus without pressure. Just him.
And then… the car. YALL!
Aside from being an athlete, Jax has this reallllllly incredible car that made my photographer brain absolutely explode. My goodness, The car and the outfits… his large shoe collection that was brought to the session. Every detail was so intentional, very thought out and very him. Jax wasn’t all about showing off… it was about showcasing personality. It was about freezing his style. Capturing the Pride he takes in what he loves. When seniors bring pieces of their world into a session, that’s when the magic really happens.
We started our session at the high school and then moved our session over to his home, which brought a whole different energy to everything. His family is so fun, like you know how some people are just easy to mesh with…. the vibe flows and everyone has a good time. Yep.. that’s the Wilsons. And what stood out to me most about everything…. they all share this incredible quality; its the ability to walk into a room without any desire to fit in. Jax and his family don’t shrink. They are not trying to blend. They simply are. They have a uniqueness that draws you in. There’s a quiet confidence there that shifts the atmosphere when they enter.
You can see where Jax gets it from…
There is something powerful about photographing a senior who already understands that fitting in is completely overrated. Confidence doesn’t have to be “loud”… just steady. Its just about knowing your strengths, and ownings your own quirks, and walking forward anyway.
I just know Jax is going to do AMAZING things in his life. And its not just because he’s talented. Its not just because he’s driven. But because JAX KNOWS WHO HE IS!
This session will go down in the history books of senior sessions for me… easily.
I never take it lightly when families trust me to capture these milestones. These aren’t just photos for them… They are bookmarks in a story. Its proof of who they were in this exact moment before life opens up wide.
Jax’s owned his chapter beautifully.
