What inspires you

“Everything has it’s beauty, but not everyone sees it”

-Confucius

I can remember the first time I picked up a “real” camera, one that wasn’t disposable or cheap and didn’t require film and developing.

This newer generation will never know the feeling of driving to the community drug store to have your film developed. I could remember holding the film to the light to see if it looked like the images would be good.

You must know the excitement I had when I held my first DSLR camera with the ability to immediately check my images, on a good quality screen.

*Just a second while I grab my cane and mosey over to the recliner for story time… Just kidding. *

However, I do sound beyond my years right now.

My husband at the time had purchased this camera and it wasn’t being used. I was eager to start practicing with it. I remember telling him then that I would love to one day own a photography business.

So, it began. I started finding things around our yard to capture. We would ride down our back roads, and he would stop for me to capture old buildings, flowers, road signs, whatever looked appealing to my eye. It was then that I realized that everything does have beauty, but it requires a particular perspective to appreciate it.

Later, life happened and took one of those unexpected turns, I left my camera and a piece of my photography dream in my first home and never looked back.

Fast forward to many years later, I purchased MY OWN camera. I was living in a new county in a new home. I remarried a man that supported and encouraged all my dreams, that loved me and most importantly loved God.

Every time I pack my camera for use, I am reminded of the intricate details that God put into our creation and what a visual testament it serves.

How inspiring it is to take pictures and to look beyond the surface of what we consider beauty to be. Looking at life through the lens of my camera has taught me beauty can be discovered in all situations, even when we find it difficult.

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
